Frequently asked questions
What is a user agent string?
A user agent (UA) is a string a browser or other client sends to identify itself. It often includes browser and operating system tokens. Many browsers include other browsers’ names for compatibility, so seeing “Safari” in a Chrome UA doesn’t mean you’re using Safari.
How accurate is this user agent parser?
It recognizes common browsers, older Edge and Internet Explorer, Android and iOS WebViews, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn in-app browsers, and common crawlers. Unknown clients show as Unknown. UA strings can be spoofed or reduced, so the result describes what the string reports, not a verified identity.
Can a user agent distinguish Windows 10 from Windows 11?
No. Both use Windows NT 10.0. Chromium’s client hints can distinguish them when platformVersion is available, so your own results can be more specific. Client hints can also reveal the real macOS or Android version hidden by a reduced UA. They’re shown separately and never applied to pasted strings.
Does Chrome on iOS use the same engine as desktop Chrome?
No. Chrome on iOS uses Apple’s WebKit engine. Desktop Chrome uses Blink. This parser follows the tokens present in the string; it can’t verify the engine independently.
